About scaly.pet

scaly.pet is a setup guide for people bringing home a reptile, or trying to get an existing setup right. It covers one species at a time: the enclosure, the heat, the light, the food, and the gear that does each job.

Reptiles hide illness well, and many of the problems vets see in pet reptiles trace back to husbandry: a basking spot that is too cool, UVB that is missing or too weak, an enclosure that is too small or the wrong shape. Pet store kits do not always get this right. We start from what each species needs, according to veterinary and herpetological sources, and only then talk about products.

What we cover

Each species gets a complete guide: a setup checklist, a supplies list, enclosure sizes, lighting and heating, diet, the first week at home, common mistakes and a FAQ. We publish one species at a time and finish each before starting the next. Leopard geckos come first, followed by bearded dragons, ball pythons, crested geckos, corn snakes and veiled chameleons.

How we work

Care advice comes from veterinary and herpetological sources, and every guide lists its sources at the end. Product picks use the specifications manufacturers publish and the feedback buyers leave. We say plainly that we have not tested products ourselves; you can read exactly how we choose them in our editorial policy. Nothing here replaces a reptile vet, and if your animal seems unwell, that is who to call.

How the site is paid for

When you buy something through a link to Amazon, scaly.pet may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Commissions never decide what we recommend, and we will tell you when the right answer is a cheaper option, or not buying at all.
